Howdy Folks!
Today, we continued to work on the Notice and Note strategy in order to help us analyze- and have a deeper understanding of the texts that we read! Yesterday we read How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and today, after a close read, we recorded contrast & contradictions that we noticed in the story, and made inferences along with those contrast & contradictions! This skill/strategy needs to be polished a bit more, but then again, practice makes better! And we're going to have lots of practice over the coming months!
We also began to determine text structures of non-fiction text, focusing on the cause & effect text structure as we read an article from Achieve 3000 about tens of thousands of bards that have mysteriously vanished from a sanctuary!
We also practiced our close reading skills by determining the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text. We made sure to refer back to and cite our key details as well!
We also worked on the R.C.D.W. strategy to analyze and solve a word problem. We are getting more and more proficient with this strategy as the weeks pass! One suggestion? Revise and recheck the work and solution!
