Stop, Notice & Note!

Hi Folks!

We started the day out with a reading lesson on Notice and Note! Notice and Note is a reading strategy which introduces, to the students, 6 “signposts” that allow them to clue-in on significant moments in fictional texts and encourages them to read closely. Learning first to identify these signposts and then to question them allows readers to explore the text and find evidence to support their analysis. All in all, these close reading strategies will help readers to notice and note! The first signpost that was introduced to us this morning was the sign post Contrasts and Contradictions!

We continued to revise an anonymous student's informative piece on sharks during Writer's Workshop! We made sure to utilize text features to clarify the information the reader!

During math today we continued to utilize the R.C.D.W strategy to analyze and solve word problems.  I explained to the students that the solution won't present itself within 2-3 of trying to figure out the problem!! It takes a few close reads, a bunch of minutes to think about which operations, strategies, and tools to use, and then more minutes to execute those operations, strategies, and tools! And on top of that, it takes a bit more time to revise and recheck the work! To sum it up, I told students to slow down when trying to tackle these word problems, and that these word problems take time, thinking, and effort to solve!

And that's a wrap up folks! Cheers, and have a good one!
