Summer Break, Pt. 1

Howdy Folks!

What have I been up to? Well...

The first weekend of summer break, I ran a 20-miler with the TNT team in Monterey! This was run was the deciding factor on whether I was going to run the full marathon or dial it back to only a half come June 18th; fortunately, there was no knee or foot pain throughout the entire run, so full steam ahead! The last five miles of this 20-miler was tough as nails (leg cramps, physical fatigue, mental fatigue, etc.) on the fact that I didn't consume enough calories to last the entire training! The lesson? Properly fuel yourself before and during the race!

I've also been doing sort-of-fun-but-not-really tasks like...

  • Going the social security office:
It's like waiting for a Disneyland ride!
  • Heading, MULTIPLE times, to IKEA for shelves and baby furniture:
Want a migraine? Come here on the weekends.
  • Building said IKEA furniture:

These metal racks are a godsend!

I've also has some time for some fun activities too!

  • I went to the SF Museum of Modern Art! I'm not an art connoisseur, but I found most of the art at SF MOMA to be quite intriguing! I was awed by the detail, precision, patience, effort that were required on the part of the artists in order to accomplish their pieces! If you want to take your kids to an art museum that's not so "boring," you should check out all 7 floors of this recently renovated museum!
You can't tell, but these are not photographs! They're portraits of people using various
mediums such as graphite, acrylics, fabric, etc. The artist, Chuck Close, is so boss!
Crayon and graphite!

  • Molly and I had a mini-vacation with my cousins and their significant others in the town of Fairfax! I'm a big fan of those quaint, little towns! So full of charm! We did some BBQing, did some hiking, took in small town life, and did A LOT of relaxing. Booyah!

  • Trying to improve my teaching game (a.k.a. pedagogy), I've been setting some time aside for some educational reading!
  •  I've also alotted some time for some pleasure reading too!
  • I've also gotten a chance to expand my sneaker collection!
Adidas is totally winning the hearts and minds of sneakerheads with athletes
with their focus on design, performance, and technology! I'm a big fan their sock-like
Primeknit material they use for their sneakers' upper and
their cushy, comfortable Boost midsole makes it seem as though
you're running on clouds!

I'm heading to Seattle tomorrow (Thursday) for that marathon I've been talking about! Wish me luck, and I hope you're enjoying your summer as much as I am! Cheers!
