Stop Talk, and Listen Practice!

Howdy Folks!

In the morning, we spent a huge chunk of time applying decomposing in order to determine a multiplication equation and the accompanying array for a given product! Practice makes the use of skill/strategies more efficient! We went over how the utilization of twos, fives, and tens as factors might be efficient in determining a multiplication equation for these products!

After recess, we had a class discussion on being mindful about words and tone used towards others. I explained to the students that some people are quite sensitive to certain verbiage that's being directed towards them, and to be supportive teammates, we must always take that into consideration when speaking and talking to one another. A slight misuse of words or the wrong tone might change a teammate's day from a bad good one to a bad one, so again being mindful is key!

We also went over what to do when there is altercation, and that is to stop, talk, and listen!
  1.  STOP- Stop yourself from getting frustrated/mad/angry/aggressive by stepping away from the situation in order to calm yourself down. During this calm-down time, you should be also gathering your thoughts and deciding what words/phrases to say to the individual who was part of the altercation. Think about using "I" messages (I felt...., My feelings were...)

  2. TALK- Once you're calm and you have figured out what to say to the individual, go up to them, get their attention by calling their name, and express your thoughts and feelings with your "I"message.

  3. LISTEN-Allow the other individual to explain themselves, to apologize to you, and to make it up to you by saying, "What can I do to make you feel better?"
What can we do if the other individual is unwilling to listen or is persistent in throwing hooks (i.e. teasing)? Instead of biting that hook, and falling into the individual's verbal barrages, we could find a caring adult, or we could utilize a combination of these strategies:

Since, we have Science Lab with Mrs. Sechrist tomorrow, we discussed how to be ready! We then put our discussion down onto paper in the form of a "how to" informative piece!

And near the end of the day, we played a game that helps with our twos multiplication facts!

Cheers y'all!
