Happy Hump Day!

Howdy Folks!

We started the day out discussing our newly assigned desks. I explained the logic behind their assigned seat (needing to sit next teammates who are supportive to you and your attentiveness!)

We also discussed my Observation Notebook, wherein I explained that throughout the year, I will be taking notes and doing observations on all E-8 teammates, focusing on behavior, so that I may have talking points with students (and parents) on ways to be more supportive in the classroom!

For Writer's Workshop today, we all utilized strategies for Finding Ideas for True Stories; we thought of a person (or pet) who matters to us, and list small moments with that person (or pet). Now when we run out of steam we can always refer back to this page to begin a new story!

Afterwards, we utilized turn and talk to share our stories with partners as well as to support our partners by giving suggestions to make their stories even better then they already are!

During reading today we got into active listening pairs, and close read The Ballad of Mulan for the purpose of finding answers to our text-dependent questions!

Today's math block focused less on perimeter and more on how to work in collaborative groups. We discussed and agreed to behaviors that would be most supportive to teammates in our group when working on a task. We then had a model of what efficient collaboration looks like, and then we put these collaborative structures into practice!

Roles for collaborating today:

Observer- Takes notes on behavior and makes suggestions  for more efficient collaborating
Recorder- Records all work that group has done
Measurement Handler- Uses a unit of measurement (in this case, a marker) to measure object
Tally Mark Indicator- Assists Measurement Handler in measurement precision

Collaborating to find the perimeter of those books! Yeah buddy!

We also shared a couple of Me Bags!

Near the end of the day, we discussed homework and how it is our responsibility, not our parents', to make sure our homework goes inside our homework folder, and that our homeworker goes in our backpacks! We had enough time at the end of the day for some good ol' PE! During PE, we worked on our sportsmanship and team-building skills while playing a game known only as Star Wars!

Cheers folks!
