The Future

All children are different, and therefore learn in different ways and at different paces, so why do we approach education as if they are all identical? My philosophy? Here it is:
  • constructing a safe, inclusive, educational environment where developing engaging, meaningful, and authentic curriculum that will provide a blueprint for lifelong learning and student success
  • Respecting the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development of each child
  • Partnering staff, students, parents, and community to create a unique, challenging, and individualized learning environment with high academic standards and expectations
  • Creating educational programs that foster thinking which is original, critical, collaborative, and reflective
  • Developing students who are self-motivated, self-disciplined, and socially responsible
  • Improving teaching and learning techniques based on supporting research
These tidbits are my hopes and dreams at the very least! Here's Sir Ken Robinson, an education expert, discussing the need for a paradigm shift in education. I believe that positive shifts in education have already begun, what with the implementation of the Common Core standards and all, and it can only get better from here on out!

I invite you all to come aboard this gravy train known as the Los Alamitos Express, and together we can change the face of schooling and learning so that each child receives a well-rounded education; not one that is just facts and content, but an education that will teach our youth the skills and strategies to be thoughtful, caring, critical-thinking human beings who are ready for the real world!
