We started the day out with math, focusing in on determining the start time, or the end time, or the elapsed time of real world situations! We utilize the RCDW strategy to analyze and then determine whether we need to use operation of addition or subtraction to solve the problem. On top of that, we also used the decomposing strategy to get to times that are efficient to add on to or subtract from, and we showed or process on a number line! From my observations, a lot of the students are getting hung up on determining whether to use addition or subtraction, as well as determining whether they need to solve for the start time/end time or finding elapsed time. All of this just requires a little practice in close reading, so we'll continue to work on it!
During Writer's Workshop, we had an introduction into persuasive/opinion writing wherein we went over and looked at a few writing samples in which students give an opinion on a topic with explicit reasons that support their opinion! We also looked at a few persuasive pieces in which the student is persuading an audience that his/her point of view is the right point of view by using reasons and evidence for support!
We then segued into Reading, and worked on determining opinions within an article and then close read for reasons that's support those opinions! The topic, making sure that we give a well-thought-out reason to support our opinion!
And that's a wrap up folks! Cheers, And have a good one!
