We started the day out with Writer's Workshop! We again focused on Leads, but this time using an adverb for a lead (which allows the reader to get right into the middle of the action and persuades him/her to want to keep on reading!)
After Writer's Workshop, we shared a couple of Me Bags (almost done with them!)
On Thursday we discussed how to make a connection and/or write about a favorite part with a 3rd grade, detailed, professional explanation that truley express one's thinking when reading!
During math block, we discussed within our collaborative groups, differences between rounding to the tens versus rounding to the hundreds. I got some pretty boss explanations with an example to boot, for clarification!
And then we practiced the pattern of skip counting by fours!
During Pokemon Friday, an incident caused for an important discussion on self-control and honesty. I explained to the class that appropriating items that don not belong to you, simply because you want that item, can actually dip into people's buckets and causes mistrust amongst a community or team. I further explained that people make mistakes from time to time, and that mistakes are moments to learn the error of one's way. I also mentioned that being honest is the best policy-- It shows support to a team/community, and that honesty, as well as taking the high road, though difficult, ultimately mends relationships and shows positive character! After the discussion, if felt awesome to see what we discussed being put to good use! From this humble teacher's perspective, life skills, people skills, social skills, (ultimately, the 21st Century Skills) are right up there with reading, writing, math etc. You need ALL of these to be a contributing citizen in the workforce!
Cheers y'all!
