Close Reading Awesomeness!

Howdy Folks!

In the morn we got down with the effort, and focused on the close-reading aspect R.C.D.W when tackling word problems on assessments! We close read, in math, to see what they are asking us to answer (because a lot of the times, they're looking for more than one answer), the information that is needed (and not needed), and to see if a justification or explanation of our answer is needed!

Look at that explanation! It even includes examples for clarification! Excellent!

For Reading we dealt with determining the Main Idea and locating key details in the text to support the main idea! We really concentrated on determining whether the detail is a key detail or not by using "who," "what," or "why" questions to help us analyze whether the detail is supporting the Main Idea or not! The trick is which of those questions to use, and it depends on the article we're reading! We need to read, then close read in order to see which of those questions best fits the article in order to pull those key details!!

Notice how these students annotated how some of the crafts were made!
The key detail on the right? These students annotated why baskets were used

For math today we started our unit on...multiplication! Today we just focused on the aspect that groups that represent a multiplication equation must have equal amounts in them!

We also had some time today to practice our comprehension of non-fiction texts via Achieve 3000!

And near the end of the day, we had some PE!

Cheers y'all!
