Stratagies for Putting a Lid On Your Bucket!

Howdy Folks!

We utilized the bulk of the morning for Project Cornerstone! Today's Cornerstone Lesson focused on helping students feel empowered and in control of their responses to hurtful teases and put-downs. Students learn 5 techniques to allow them to swim free from teases and put-downs!

We saw this clip first:



And after answered this question: What was the point of this story?







We then had a read-aloud and listened to the story Simon's Hook:



We Discussed, in depth, the 5 strategies when we are in a situation where there is teasing or put-downs that are being said:



And then we got into collaborative groups and made skits for each of these strategies!













And then we followed with a quick activity after:


Using the laugh and make a joke strategy!
Using the stay away strategy!

During math today, we compared fractions by reasoning about their size using fraction strips!








I had to hone in on this particular problem because E-8 has never seen anything like it, and so I used visuals to explain:


 You might have noticed the R.C.D.W on top of classwork. It's a strategy for word problems and it means: Read, Close-Read, Draw, Write. This strategy is an off-shoot of this strategy:

We're going to be using the RCDW strategy often in math, especially when it concerns word problems!

Near the end of the day we had a rip-roaring good time for PE!
